COLLECTIVE
Unit 404 is a multimedia art collective founded in December 2020,
consisting of Jonas Meyburg, Johanna Spieker, Timothy Whitlock,
Giuliano Scollo, Jan Mischur, and Lukas Ruoff.
The collective’s work addresses the ethical and political consequences of technology and is grounded in a commitment to open-source practices and collective experimentation.
Their practice spans exhibitions, mobile interventions, web-based projects, workshops, and lectures. Operating as a self-reflective network, Unit 404 embraces complexity and ambiguity rather than consensus, producing works that are critically engaged and attentive to the responsibilities of technological openness.
Current projects continue to investigate the limits of open infrastructures, generative systems, and digital dissent.

JAN MISCHUR
Jan Mischur (*1990) is an architect who
focuses on designing with existing buildings and non-places. The
adaptation of urban structures with the individual in mind and the
preservation of the built environment are two of his main
concerns.
After training as a carpenter, Jan studied architecture at the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences and completed his studies at the Jade University of Applied Sciences in Oldenburg with a Master of Arts. He currently lives and works in Leipzig, Germany.
His role in Unit 404 is primarily in the construction infrastructure and mediation during workshops.

GIULIANO SCOLLO
Giuliano Scollo is responsible for the digital backbone of Unit 404. With several years of experience in supporting freelance artists and cultural initiatives, he ensures the technical infrastructure of the collective remains both stable and adaptable. His work is situated at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of Transportation Systems, where he focuses on information gathering and modelling—fields that require both precision and foresight. Within the collective, Giuliano moves between systems and structures, translating artistic needs into functioning frameworks. Like a quiet architect of invisible spaces, he maintains the flow of data and communication, enabling the collective's work to unfold across digital and physical environments. His knowledge is rooted in practice, shaped by both scientific and collaborative processes, and informed by a publication in his field.
LUKAS RUOFF
Lukas is a communication designer specialized on interactive audiovisual experiences and motion design. However his tools range from classical analogue art techniques to creative coding, always dependent on the conceptual needs of the project.
